K-Care and Y-Care The before and after school child care programs are open to elementary through middle school students who are enrolled in one of the six Portage Township Elementary Schools that are located in Portage. The K-Care and Y-Care programs are available to those who need extended hours of child care either before school, after school or both. With the combination of the two child care programs, the YMCA can provide child care for all students from Kindergarten through middle school from 6:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. K-Care provides child care for the Kindergarten student during the half day that they are not in class. (K-Care can be used with Y-Care to meet your total school age child care needs.) Y-Care provides child care for the elementary school students including Kindergarten students before and after school. both K-Care and Y-Care are

| History The Portage Township YMCA has been actively involved in school age child care for the past seventeen years. It is a member of the Indiana Association of School Age Child Care and practices a limited child to staff ratio. |

| Program Philosophy The Portage Township YMCA strives to help participants grow physically, mentally and spiritually while providing challenging activities in both small and large group settings under the guidance of caring, well trained YMCA staff. |

| Child Care Staff YMCA staff are enthusiastic, mature individuals who are experienced in providing each child with a safe, fun experience in a nurturing atmosphere. Each staff member is a positive role model, dedicated to meeting the needs of each child in order to provide the best possible child care experience. All are trained in CPR, advanced first aid, and universal precautions. |

| Activities Children enrolled in the program can expect fun, friends and memories through organized activities including arts and crafts, small and large motor activities, music, singing, story time and access to the computer lab. |

| Registration There is a $15 registration fee per family for this program which is non-refundable and covers both K-Care and Y-Care if both are needed. To be registered in the School Age Child Care Program, each child must be a member of the Portage Township YMCA. An annual membership is $64 per child; however, that fee is waived for those receiving financial aid. Registration for K-Care starts on April 10,

and continues throughout the school year until the sessions are

In the event of severe weather or snow days, Y-Care will remain open unless the Portage Township YMCA building closes. Please listen to the following local radio stations for closing information: AM 1500, AM 720, 105.5FM, 107.1FM, 103.9FM or watch the WGN TV channel 9. You may also check www.cancellations.com, or www.emergencyclosingcenter.com. In the event that school closes before the beginning of the school day, you may bring your child to the YMCA building for Y-Care. In the event that school closes during the school day, all Y-Care children will be bussed to the Portage Township YMCA building where they may be picked up by 6pm. |
